When it comes to breakfast in Canggu, the options are limitless. This popular Indonesian coastal town is filled to the brim with tasty spots and cozy breakfast nooks to guarantee your girls group chat wakes up before noon.

And trust me, with the amount of hangovers you’re likely to suffer in Canggu, a strong breakfast scene is a necessity!

During my travels in Southeast Asia, I was lucky enough to spend four months living in the heart of Bali. Due to an unfortunate food injury that classified swimming off-limits, trying new restaurants and cafes was the extent of my mobility for most of my time in Indonesia.

Let’s just say, I definitely ate my fair share of Instagram-worthy brunch in Canggu. If you’re already a subscriber you know – Madison’s Footsteps is all about a basic brunch in any destination! Whether you’re in the mood for smoothie bowls, brekkie burritos or just some good, old-fashioned avocado toast – you’ll find it in this picturesque coastal village. Keep reading for the best and yummiest Bali breakfast in Canggu.

The Best Breakfast in Canggu Bali

Whether it’s a traditional Balinese breakfast in Canggu, a coffee tasting at a Luwak coffee plantation in Ubud or a smoothie bowl in Seminyak, no one can argue that Bali’s breakfast scene is on point.

And let’s be honest—life is too short for a freezer-burned toaster waffle. Skip the eggos, hop on that plane, and fill your belly with the tastiest breakfast in Bali Canggu! Don’t worry—you won’t have to search far to find this delicious food. I’ve linked every Bali cafe on Google Maps for your convenience.

1. Crate Cafe Canggu

Located on Canggu Padang Linjong, Crate Cafe is one of the most popular and highly-rated breakfast cafes in Canggu. This open-air cafe offers both private and family-style seating and offers tons of delicious options for Bali breakfast, brunch and lunch.

I visited Crate Cafe on my first full day in Bali – when I was seriously craving some avocado toast. Two thick slices of sourdough toast were slathered in mashed avocado and topped with cherry tomatoes, perfectly poached eggs, feta cheese and smoked salmon. The verdict = yummy as hell.

My only complaint from this Canggu breakfast place had to be from my iced latte. Although you couldn’t argue that the presentation was fantastic, the coffee itself was relatively tasteless and full of ice chunks. Loving that eco-friendly straw though!

2. Cinta Cafe

Cinta Cafe was one of my all-time favorite spots for a yummy breakfast in Canggu. Their large seating area and strong wifi made it one of the best places to work in Canggu…especially when you order a never-ending stream of iced coffee.

Located just a few minutes drive from Berawa Beach, Cinta Cafe Canggu offers a full menu and a great view of the Canggu rice fields. My favorite is their “Breakfast Set” where you can essentially build-your-own brekkie from scratch. Pictured below is poached eggs*, homemade sourdough toast, mashed avocado, smoked salmon and – because I was in an eating mood that day – fresh burrata and tomatoes.

*Skip the regular eggs and order the Turkish Poached Eggs instead – they’re delicious.

3. Brunch Club Berawa

Brunch Club has a couple locations around Bali and they’re widely known for their giant, fluffy pancakes that they’ve decided to call “porncakes.” They claim to serve the best pancakes in Canggu – but you be the judge! These giant stacks of pancakes come topped with rich ingredients like butterscotch, brownie chunks, fresh strawberries, marshmallow fluff, peanut butter and more. Long story short, show up hungry.

Although the pancakes did look fantastic, I’m not much of a sweet breakfast person, so I decided on something a little more savory for this breakfast in Canggu. Below is the “Eggs Atlantic” meal from Brunch Club Bali with house-cured salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce piled high on brioche toast.

4. Cafe Vida Canggu

Located right in the heart of Canggu Bali, Cafe Vida is only a short drive away from Pantai Batu Bolong. This Canggu cafe serves up all day breakfast from 7:30AM to 5:00PM! They offer two menus, a sweet menu and a savory menu. Naturally – I opted for the savory and ordered their unique twist on avocado toast.

This hearty sourdough was piled high with garlic truffle oyster mushrooms, feta, cherry tomatoes, peas, whipped tahini, mashed avocado and poached eggs. Although, it turned out to be super tasty, I probably won’t be ordering peas on my avocado toast again any time soon.

Note: Cafe Vida’s menu is 100% organic and they offer an extensive home-brewed Kombucha menu as well as breakfast.

5. Milk & Madu Berawa

If you’re looking for a good burrito in Canggu, Milk & Madu is your spot baby girl!

When it comes to tasty food, Milk & Madu 100% deserves their spot on the list of the Canggu best breakfast restaurants. I ordered the breakfast burrito and an iced latte and, for the most part, I had a great experience.

The foodie in me wants to recommend Milk & Madu for breakfast in Canggu (which is why they made the list!), but the American in me wants to mention that the service was pretty terrible. The waitstaff was very friendly, but I had to ask two or three times to receive anything I had ordered. Additionally, I ordered the breakfast burrito…and they forgot to add the scrambled eggs. In my opinion, that’s kind of the whole point 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Bad service to the side, Milk & Madu did have a fantastic location with a large seating area and strong wifi. The food and coffee were delicious and the prices were very average for Canggu.

6. Nyom Nyom Canggu

While living at the Matra Coliving & Coworking Canggu, Nyom Nyom was the partner restaurant that catered to the digital nomads working at the Coworking Space. I kicked off my Bali experience by spending 6+ hours at the Matra Coworking Space every day and ordering two meals from Nyom Nyom Cafe. If you’re traveling on a budget, don’t miss out on this cafe for cheap breakfast in Canggu.

In addition to partnering with Matra Canggu, Nyom Nyom also has their own location on Pantai Berawa. The cafe has two floors of seating (we love breakfast in Canggu with a view!) and they also sell their own Bali coffee. I always enjoyed their avocado toast, but they really shine when you order their Indonesian dishes. The diversity of the Nyom Nyom Coffee menu makes it not only one of the best Canggu cafes for breakfast, but also one of the best Canggu lunch spots. Their spicy mie goreng was to-die-for!

7. Satu Satu Coffee Company

The Satu-Satu Coffee Company lived up to their name. This hopping breakfast spot was arguably the best cafe in Canggu for delicious, Indonesian coffee – so Satu Satu Canggu is definitely worth a visit.

Satu Satu offers a full breakfast and brunch menu with all the typical items like pancakes, omelets and every smoothie bowl flavor under the sun. I decided on their salmon bagel with cream cheese. Once I asked for more cream cheese (they kind of skimped me), it was delicious.

The Satu Satu Canggu Coffee Shop is definitely among the best cafes in Canggu Bali – especially if you consider yourself a coffee connoisseur.

8. Butterman Canggu

Butterman was located right across the street from Nyom Nyom in a high-traffic area of Canggu. Although this Canggu cafe was on the small side, they served some seriously delicious coffee and breakfast options. I’ve tried both the Benedict Smoked Salmon (pictured below) and the simple Quiche Lorraine with smoked bacon and Emmental cheese.

Although they have a couple outdoor tables, the majority of Butterman’s seating is inside and the cafe is flush with both outlets and air conditioning. That makes it the perfect place to work for a couple hours while eating breakfast in Canggu!

9. Motion Fitness Foods

If you’re looking for a healthy breakfast in Canggu, look no further than Motion Cafe!

Motion Fitness Foods is a popular choice on the list of Canggu breakfast spots – especially among the gym crowd. The little cafe along Batu Bolong is always packed with expats in workout clothes, sipping on protein shakes and working on their laptops. The menu is massive, with tons of healthy options like protein waffles, keto breads and hearty brunch plates like the one pictured below.

This was the Turkish Breakfast and it came piled high with poached eggs, feta, hummus, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a huge loaf of Turkish bread. When it came down to it, I’m not sure how healthy it was…but it was certainly delicious! Motion Cafe is definitely one of the best breakfast places in Canggu.

10. ZIN Cafe

ZIN Cafe Bali has the perfect breakfast in Canggu for digital nomads – since it’s also a coworking space! Their spacious, open-air cafe + coworking space is open everyday from 7AM – 10PM and is completely free to use. The space itself is beautiful with bamboo walls and plants in every corner. It’s the “Bali aesthetic” in a nutshell.

I only visited ZIN Cafe once, since they seemed to be having an issue with their wifi, but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I went for the Grilled Halloumi Toast which consisted of poached eggs, baba ganoush, grilled halloumi and tomatoes on crispy sourdough. The ZIN Cafe Canggu menu offers a nice mix of Indonesian food and Western favorites.

12. Nude

The first thing you’ll notice on a visit to Nude is that their aesthetic is on 👏🏼 point 👏🏼. The decor is very minimal (the way they like it in Bali) and there are lots of leafy plants and wood accents. Trust me – Nude is definitely considered an Instagrammable cafe in Canggu. The menu itself is very tasty and it’s the perfect spot for your next breakfast in Canggu.

For brunch, I settled on the smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese, watercress, dill, and fried capers. All was delicious—it actually reminded me of a delicious bagel I enjoyed in Hoi An at Buttercup by Rosie’s. Bagels taste even better in Indonesia since they can be hard to find. I also ordered a Coke…because it was a bit of a hungover morning 😂.

13. The Avocado Factory

If you’re on the hunt for breakfast places in Canggu, I highly recommend a visit to The Avocado Factory Bali. I love everything avocado, so I was immediately hooked when I heard the name. Although I visited The Avocado Factory many times during breakfasts in Canggu, on this particular visit I decided to order the Truffle Benedict. It did not disappoint!

Fluffy English muffins were topped with mushrooms, avocado (of course), poached eggs, black sesame seeds and truffle sauce. The fact that I’m getting hungry again just thinking about it…means The Avocado Factory might just be the site of the best brunch in Canggu (it could even be the best brunch in Bali!) You be the judge.

14. Machinery Cafe

Of all the best breakfast spots in Canggu, some of my favorite meals had to come from Machinery Cafe and Copenhagen (it’s a tie!). Machinery Cafe isn’t as “Insta-worthy” as many of the other spots on this list, so I think it oftentimes gets overlooked. However, their food is excellent 👏🏼. If you only have one breakfast in Canggu, Machinery Cafe would be a great choice!

Located on Batu Bolong street, I visited Machinery Cafe more than once for the awesome atmosphere and tasty brunch. On this particular visit, I decided to order the brekkie wrap. Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, cheese, avocado and tomato sauce were combined for maximum breakfast deliciousness.

Pro tip: ask for the chili oil! It’s insanely delicious and can basically be put on anything to create the best lunch in Canggu.

15. Copenhagen

Last on this list of the best breakfast places in Canggu, but certainly not least, is Copenhagen! I knew Copenhagen was going to be good before I even stepped through the doors, because there’s always a wait.

At Copenhagen, you don’t just order one breakfast or brunch dish. No, instead you create a “breakfast plate” where you select a certain amount of a la carte items. I decided on the 2 slices of sourdough, sunny side up eggs, smashed avocado, smoked salmon with cream cheese and pork sausages with tomato relish. Although we had to wait a bit, it was 100% worth it for all of this deliciousness!

I don’t say this lightly, but Copenhagen has my vote for the best breakfast in Bali.

16. SuperFood Health Bar

Only a short, 5-minute walk to Canggu Beach, lies a health food oasis known as Superfood Canggu. This open-air cafe is the perfect spot for a delicious breakfast in Canggu…or a tasty lunch and dinner since they’re open until 10:00PM daily.

Since I’m more of a savory brunch girlie, I decided on the Mexicano Wrap. For only 70,000 Rupiah, this thing was stuffed with scrambled eggs, avocado, black beans, cheese, chilis, cilantro and red salsa. I brought my laptop, and hunkered down for a few hours of work and some light people watching.

Although I went for a wrap, I’ve heard amazing things about Superfood’s smoothie bowls. But let’s be honest, you can’t throw a rock without hitting an amazing smoothie bowl in Bali.

Protect Your Trip to Indonesia

Whenever I plan a trip, I always make sure to protect myself and my wallet with travel insurance. I’ve always booked travel insurance before trips, but I had to learn the hard way that not all travel insurance programs are created equal.

During the two months I lived in Thailand in 2022, I injured my foot on a weekend trip to Khao Sok National Park, which led to four months of limping around Southeast Asia and an eventual surgery in Canggu.

Since I was buying travel insurance month-to-month through AXA, none of my surgery was covered and I was out $3,500—even though I had active travel insurance at the time.

Since then, I started traveling with SafetyWing Travel Medical Insurance. It’s perfect for both short-term travelers and digital nomads since you can tailor it exactly to your dates and needs.

You can use it as a monthly subscription (what I usually do), or pay in full for a set date range. You can also take advantage of their useful add-ons like U.S. coverage (not for U.S. citizens, unfortunately), adventure sports, and electronics theft! Grab a quote below for your next trip 👇🏼

Stay Connected in Canggu

Staying connected during your trip to Canggu is key, and an Airalo e-SIM makes a data connection both easy and convenient. An e-SIM is a digital SIM card that allows you to access mobile data services abroad without the need for a physical SIM card. The Airalo e-SIM is your go-to solution for staying connected (and staying safe) whilst in Canggu, or anywhere else in Southeast Asia. It’s also perfect for sneaking peeks at menus when seeking out the best brunches in Bali. 👉🏼 Use code MADI10 for 10% off!

All you have to do is download the app and activate your e-SIM for instant connectivity anywhere in the world. Not only does reliable data make your trip a lot easier, but it also make every trip a lot safer – especially for girls traveling solo.

What to Eat in Canggu?

If you’re all about a basic brunch, make sure to get your fill in Canggu and Seminyak. You’re much less likely to find it in other parts of Bali, like the Amed Coast.

Breakfast in Canggu consists of trendy, Insta-worthy brunch places with menus filled to the brim with basic-girl classics like eggs benedict, fluffy pancakes, specialty coffee drinks and all the avocado toast you can eat.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying Westernized Canggu brunches with your girls, but take my advice and make sure to try some traditional warungs during your time in Canggu as well. These are truly the best restaurants in Canggu. My favorites are Warung Sika and Warung Bu Mi. (They seem to be everybody else’s favorites too…since they’re always packed with locals and expats.)

Pro Tip: don’t miss out on trying martabak during your time in Indonesia. It’s a dessert consisting of a thick, pan-fried pancake stuffed with fillings like Nutella, strawberries, Oreos, and cheese. I had the best martabak of my life at the Gili Trawangan Night Market in Gili T.
