Facile Tours in Rome Review: Trying the Dolce Vita Tour

If your dream trip to Rome starts with vroom-vrooming around to the city’s best landmarks in Instagram-worthy eFiat cabrios, then stay tuned—because you’re not going to want to miss this Facile Tours Rome review.

Back in early March, my family came to visit me just after I had finally fulfilled my lifelong dream of moving to Rome. Since it wasn’t their first visit, I knew I wanted to find a fun and unique way of showing them more of this city I love so much.

That’s how we ended up booking a Dolce Vita Tour with Facile Tours, a local company that runs the cutest little tours around Rome in eFiat cabrio cars!

Instead of navigating busy streets on foot, we spent a few hours zipping through the city, stopping at iconic landmarks, scenic viewpoints, and ending up in what felt like every tourist’s TikTok video along the way.

Between the freedom of being able to cover so much ground and the great energy from our guides, Marco and Gianluca, it ended up being one of the most fun ways I’ve explored the city so far.

**I want to extend a huge thank you to Facile Tours for gifting me and my family a Dolce Vita Tour with not one, but two of their adorable electric-powered Fiats in Rome! This post is sponsored by Facile Tours, but all opinions in this review are my own.

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL RATING: ⭐️⭐️
While the Dolce Vita Tour can still be fun solo, I wouldn’t consider it the best option for solo female travel. Since it’s a private experience, it’s quite expensive if you don’t have anyone to split the cost with, and there’s no opportunity to meet other travelers. That said, it’s a very safe and comfortable way to see the city, so if budget isn’t a concern and you’re just looking for an easy way to explore Rome, it could still be worth it.

My Experience on the Dolce Vita Tour

There’s always a little bit of pressure when you’re hosting family in a city like Rome. You want to make sure everyone has the best time possible, sees as much as they can, but doesn’t end up completely exhausted by the end of the day.

Since my mom was dealing with a knee injury, I knew we needed something that would let us cover a lot of ground without relying on Rome’s very unreliable buses or spending a fortune on Ubers. And honestly, I didn’t want to spend the entire time dragging everyone from one landmark to the next on foot either.

This tour ended up being the perfect balance!

We were able to see a ton of Rome’s most iconic sites in just a couple of hours, without feeling rushed or worn out. Instead of stressing about transportation or logistics, we could just sit back, enjoy the ride, and take everything in.

I’m going to walk you through the experience from start to finish—including our first impressions, each stop along the way, and everything you should know if you’re thinking about booking this tour for your own trip.

First Impressions

We met our guides, Marco and Gianluca, in Villa Borghese to kick off the tour—and before we even got into the cars, we could already tell this was going to be a fun experience.

While we were chatting and getting a quick overview of the itinerary, people kept coming up to the cars to take photos. At one point, a few tourists were even putting their kids inside them. So yeah…safe to say these little electric Fiats are total showstoppers, even in a city like Rome.

From the start, both Marco and Gianluca were incredibly welcoming and easy to talk to. The energy was just good—super relaxed, but you could tell they genuinely love what they do.

Before we set off, they made sure we were comfortable. Since it was early March, they had brand new blankets in the cars to keep us warm, plus JBL speakers so we could crank up the tunes while zooming around.

Stop 1: The Colosseum

Starting off with an oldie but a goodie—no tour of Rome is complete without a stop at the gorgeous Colosseum.

And let me tell you, the only thing that makes photos of the Colosseum better is adding these colorful little Fiats into the mix (as you can see below).

Even though we had obviously been here before, the guides pulled up to one of the best viewpoints—one that my family hadn’t seen before. It’s one of the best spots in Rome to take in the full beauty of the monument—and even better when you don’t have to walk up there yourself.

Stop 2: Giardino degli Aranci

Next up on our Rome itinerary—the Garden of Oranges, or il Giardino degli Aranci.

I was so excited that we stopped here because this is a viewpoint I hadn’t seen since my study abroad days back in 2017.

Even though it wasn’t quite in bloom like it would be later in the year, the view is still the same—and just as stunning as I remembered. It was also something my family had never seen before, which made it even more special.

Marco also taught us something new—about the optical illusion that occurs here. If you stand back from where the photo below was taken, the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica looks huge, framed perfectly by the trees and skyline. But as you walk closer to the viewing platform, it appears much smaller.

One quick thing to note—our guides did warn us about pickpockets in this area, so just be mindful of your belongings like you would anywhere else in Rome.

If you’re looking for a secure crossbody bag, I personally recommend checking out this cactus-leather option by Thafael (code MADI for 20% off).

Stop 3: Gianicolo Hill

This was the stop I was most excited for because, somehow, after all the time I’ve spent in Rome, I had still never made it up to the iconic Gianicolo Hill viewpoint.

Our guides drove us up, which thank God—because otherwise it would have been a long uphill walk or an annoyingly crowded bus ride.

They also timed it perfectly for something I didn’t even know existed. Apparently, a cannon goes off at Gianicolo Hill every day at noon. Our guides did mention it, but I clearly wasn’t paying enough attention…so we were all a little confused about why everyone was so intensely gathered around the viewpoint.

And then the cannon went off and scared the crap out of all of us. 😅

It was actually really cool to see, and the view from up here is easily one of the best in Rome.

Between the panoramic skyline and the perfect angle of the city, it’s one of those spots that really sticks with you—and my Canon compression lens definitely did its thing here, if I do say so myself.

Stop 4: Spanish Steps

Next up was another iconic Roman landmark—the Spanish Steps.

Getting there was a bit chaotic with all the pedestrian traffic (as expected in that area), but our drivers did a fantastic job of navigating the crowded streets.

It’s always a treat to see the Spanish Steps, and even more fun when you’re rolling up in a tiny Fiat and getting treated like a celebrity by all the people snapping photos of you along the way!

Stop 5: Trevi Fountain

Last but not least, we did a quick swipe by the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks.

It’s recently reopened with a new ticketing system—what used to be free to access now costs €2 EUR, which honestly is probably worth it when you factor in the decrease in people around the actual monument.

It was also really nice getting to see the fountain without having to fight or elbow our way through crowds and clutch our bags like our lives depended on it!

**Note: Our tour ended up being around two hours, but the Dolce Vita Tours are typically three hours and include more stops. There was a last-minute miscommunication with our group size, and we needed a second car, which was only available for a shorter time. So keep in mind that your tour will likely include more stops than the ones I’ve covered here.

Tour Logistics

This Facile Tours review wouldn’t be complete without covering exactly what to expect—so here are the less exciting, but important, details you’ll want to know before booking.

Where to Meet

We met our tour guides in Villa Borghese at Piazza delle Canestre 📍, which was super easy to get to.

We were staying in San Giovanni, so we took the Metro A and then a quick bus up into the park. Of course, your route will depend on where you’re staying in Rome, but I highly recommend just using Google Maps with transit directions—it’s usually the easiest way to figure it out.

If you don’t feel like dealing with public transportation, Rome does have Ubers, although they can be a bit pricey. You can also check out the taxi app FreeNow, which is another solid option for getting around the city.

Timing

There are multiple departure times available for the Dolce Vita Tour. We chose the 10:00 AM option, which I thought was perfect—by the time it ended, we were hungry and ready to gobble up lunch at one of Rome’s iconic restaurants.

You can also choose between 2:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 6:30 PM. Just keep in mind that depending on the time of year, the 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM options might be night tours.

Pros and Cons of the Tour

To help you decide if the Facile Tours Roman Dolce Vita Tour is right for you, here is my personal list of pros and cons. Cross my heart—you know I always give you my honest opinion!

What I Loved

  • The overall vibe of this tour was so fun from start to finish. It never felt rushed or overly structured, just a really enjoyable way to explore the city.
  • Marco and Gianluca were amazing and truly made the experience. They were super fun, easy to talk to, and you could tell they genuinely love what they do.
  • The route included some of the best highlights in Rome, especially if it’s your first time visiting. These are exactly the kinds of places you’d want to see early on in your trip.
  • Even with a ton of pedestrian traffic, the drivers were incredibly skilled and we always felt safe and comfortable navigating through the city.
  • The playlist was also such a fun touch and made the whole experience even better.
  • The cars themselves were surprisingly comfortable, and the blankets made a huge difference on a crisp morning. We stayed warm and cozy the entire time.
  • I also loved the historical tidbits shared along the way.
  • One of the biggest wins for me was the convenience. Being able to see so much of Rome in a short amount of time without walking everywhere was priceless.
  • And of course, the photo opportunities. The guides clearly know exactly what tourists want (good photos), and they took us to some of the best spots to pull over and hop out for a mini photoshoot. 📸

Things to Keep in Mind

This is typically where I would share some honest, constructive feedback for potential customers—but honestly, I can’t think of a single thing I would personally change about the tour itself.

That being said, there are a couple of things you’ll want to keep in mind before booking.

This is not a budget-friendly activity in Rome. You are paying for a private tour, and the price definitely reflects that.

If you’re on the taller side—or traveling with a group of tall people—just know that the cars are pretty compact. My dad was comfortable in the front passenger seat, but even at 5’2″, I felt a little squished in the back. If you’re traveling with a group of, say, three 6-foot-tall men, it’s probably not going to be the most comfortable setup.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t a super in-depth historical tour. You’ll get some great context and fun facts along the way, but the focus is more on the experience, the views, and enjoying the ride rather than a deep dive into Roman history.

More From Facile Tours

Facile Tours offers a mix of private and small-group experiences designed to help you see Rome in a more fun and flexible way—without spending your entire trip walking from place to place.

Their most popular options are their Dolce Vita Tours, where you explore the city in their adorable fleet of eFiat cabrio cars. Seriously, you feel like a celebrity. 💁🏽‍♀️

These tours are all private and feel much more elevated and luxurious than a typical guided tour experience. We booked the classic Dolce Vita Tour, but they also offer variations like a night tour, underground tour, and even themed options inspired by Roman Holiday, Emily in Rome, and Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.

They also offer golf cart tours of Rome, which are a more budget-friendly, albeit slightly less Instagram-worthy, selection. These come in both private and shared formats, with an additional night and underground tour option.

Beyond tours, they offer private drivers for a fully customized experience, along with airport and cruise port transfers, which can make getting around Rome a lot easier—especially when you’re arriving or leaving with as much luggage as I typically do.

They also offer a few Rome food experiences, including cooking classes and food tours. That limoncello-making class is definitely high on my priority list. 😜

  • You’re traveling with family, friends, or a partner and can split the cost of a private experience.
  • You love unique experiences and want something a little more fun than a traditional walking tour.
  • You care about getting great photos and want help finding the best viewpoints around the city.
  • You want a relaxed, fun experience rather than a super structured or history-heavy tour.

This may not be the right activity for you if…

  • You’re traveling solo and are trying to stick to a tighter budget.
  • You’re looking to meet other travelers during your trip (unless you meet those travelers first and take them with you!)

Yes, this tour is only open to children ages three and older. Baby car seats cannot be accommodated in the eFiat cabrios.

Yes—this tour can be completely customized. I chose not to customize ours because I wanted to experience the classic Dolce Vita route and see the standard stops they typically include. That said, you can tailor the tour to your interests ahead of time or even adjust things during the experience by chatting with your driver.

They recommend booking at least a week in advance, but I would suggest that you book at least a couple weeks out in the high season to make sure you get your preferred dates.

How many people can fit in each cabrio?

Each cabrio has a capacity of three people. If your group is larger than three, you’ll need to reserve two vehicles.

My Final Take on Facile Tours in Rome

This Facile Tours review pretty much says it all—if you’re looking for a fun, unique way to see the city without exhausting yourself, the Dolce Vita Tour is 100% worth considering.

From the incredible views to the amazing guides and the overall vibe of cruising through Rome in a tiny eFiat, it’s easily one of the most memorable ways I’ve explored the city so far.

While it may not be the best fit for budget travelers or solo travelers looking to meet people, it’s an amazing option for couples, families, or groups of friends who want something a little more special than your typical tour.

And don’t forget to use my discount “madison” for 5% off your booking! When it comes to private tour pricing…5% goes a long way.

As someone who now lives in Rome, you’ll definitely be seeing a lot more content from me featuring the best things to do, eat, and experience around the city (and beyond in Italy). So stay tuned—there’s a lot more coming!
