My Review of Luna Beach Resort Roatan (from an Ex-Local)

If you’re planning a visit to Roatan and searching for the perfect relaxing beachfront escape in West End, Luna Beach Resort Roatan might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Back in 2021, I spent a full year living in Roatan, getting to know all the best corners of the island, including its standout places to stay. At the time, Luna Beach hadn’t officially opened its doors yet.

Fast forward to February 2025, when I finally got the chance to stay at Luna Beach during my most recent trip to the island!

After hearing all the buzz and passing it a million times in water taxis, I was excited to finally experience the resort for myself. Here’s everything you need to know about Luna Beach Resort in Roatan to help you decide if it’s the right fit for your island getaway.

**Luna Beach Resort in Roatan graciously offered me a 3-night complimentary stay at their hotel for the purposes of this review.

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Luna Beach Resort itself would be amazing for solo female travelers, except for the location and lack of other solo travelers. You’ll find more couples, families, and friend groups staying here, and the location is a bit far for walking alone at night.

Introducing Luna Beach Resort in Roatan

Tucked away on a quiet stretch of sand just outside West End, Luna Beach Resort in Roatan is one of the island’s most peaceful boutique stays.

The resort sits on over 600 feet of beachfront, surrounded by swaying palms, almond trees, and thick jungle that gives it a naturally secluded vibe—perfect for travelers looking to unwind somewhere that feels a little off-the-radar but still has the convenience of being centrally located.

Every detail of the resort is intentionally designed to blend into the landscape, with open-air spaces, whitewashed wood, and handcrafted furniture made by local carpenters.

It’s the kind of place where you can sip your morning coffee with ocean views and walk barefoot from your suite straight into the sand 🫶🏼

About the Owners: Richard & Jodi

Luna Beach Resort is owned by Richard and Jodi—a couple who took on the massive project of remodeling the resort in 2020.

Their goal was to create a boutique, beachfront experience that feels private, upscale, and fully connected to the natural beauty of Roatan—and take it from me, they’ve succeeded!

They’ve kept the design intentionally minimalistic, from the open-air layout to the custom woodwork. The whole space feels relaxed, welcoming, and thoughtfully put together.

Staying with Luna Beach Roatan: What to Expect

My first impression of this Roatan boutique hotel was how intentional everything felt. My friend and I showed up for check-in with what felt like 16 suitcases—just kidding, it was two each and a mountain of groceries—and were immediately struck by the design.

The layout is open, airy, and blends seamlessly with nature. With the exception of the gym (and bathrooms, obviously), everything at the resort is completely open to the elements.

The pool, bar, and restaurant area all flow together in one continuous space, offering stunning ocean views from every angle, and the restaurant is only steps from the water.

We were warmly welcomed at the front desk, though our room wasn’t quite ready yet. While we waited, we grabbed a table at the beach bar, ordered lunch, and settled into island time.

The only challenge was getting our suitcases to our room, since the layout isn’t super friendly for rolling suitcases and we had trouble tracking down an employee to help us. But eventually, we made it into our room and officially kicked off our stay!

The Location

The location of Luna Beach Roatan comes with a mix of pros and cons—depending on the kind of trip you’re looking for.

The resort sits on a private, peaceful stretch of beach that is incredibly beautiful and far from the hustle and bustle of West End.

Like the rest of Roatan’s coastline, it’s absolutely stunning—white sand, clear blue water, and even a bit of snorkeling right offshore. If beach access is at the top of your wishlist, this spot checks all the boxes.

There’s an on-site bar and restaurant, plus a separate breakfast cafe, so you really don’t need to go far for anything. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in and unplug without having to leave the property.

That said, if your idea of a perfect vacation includes being in the middle of the action—walking to dinner, exploring the best nightlife, and hitting up the local shops—Luna Beach is a little removed from that.

It’s technically in West End, which is my #1 recommendation for restaurants, bars, and overall vibe. But a flooded section of beach makes walking from the resort into West End a bit tricky, depending on the time of day.

I also wouldn’t recommend doing the walk at night since, after the sun goes down, that stretch is very dark and deserted, and there have been a couple of robberies reported on the walk from Turtle Beach to West End (although don’t worry, they’re very rare—Roatan is plenty safe to visit).

Luckily, it’s easy to grab a taxi from the front desk if you want to head into town, and if you’re lucky, you might even flag down a passing water taxi.

Luna Beach is located on the far west side of West End in Roatan, Honduras. It’s technically in West End, although it could be described as between West End and West Bay.

The Property

I touched on this earlier, but it’s worth repeating—Luna Beach Resort is beautifully designed.

The architecture seamlessly blends with the surrounding nature; everything is light wood and open-air, with cozy beach chairs and cabana-style loungers scattered throughout. Ocean views peek out around every corner, and little touches—like sea-inspired décor and big tropical trees—highlight the island’s natural beauty.

You’ve got plenty of options for relaxing: spread out in one of the big beach cabanas, stretch out on a lounger by the pool, or grab a seat near the bar and people-watch with a cocktail in hand.

You’re right on the beach—so be sure to add all the beach essentials to your Roatan packing list: plenty of reef-safe sunscreen, an insulated tumbler for cold drinks, and my personal favorite, an inflatable raft with cupholders.

My beachfront suite at the resort, a bright white bungalow framed by tropical greenery, with cozy lounge beds and flowing white curtains set on the sand just steps from the ocean.

Because Luna Beach is more remote, you’ll actually spot a bit more wildlife than you might in the center of West End.

Like the giant pelican that stopped by one afternoon. Or the sweetest little beach dog who spent her days digging herself into cool, shady holes by the bar.

The Accommodation

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with a whole group of beach-loving besties, Luna Beach Resort in Roatan has a variety of suites and villas to match your vibe.

Here’s a closer look at the options—and what you can expect from each one.

During my stay at Luna Beach Luxury Resort, I was booked into one of their beachfront suites—hands down the best choice if you’re traveling solo or as a couple.

I actually shared mine with my bestie, and it was more than enough space for the two of us to unpack, spread out, and not feel like we were on top of each other.

The suite had some really sweet touches—tropical-inspired decor, a couple of super comfy armchairs, and honestly one of the most beautiful bathrooms I’ve ever seen. But the real showstopper? The view.

Sliding doors open directly onto a little front patio with the ocean basically at your feet. Waking up to that view (and winding down with it at sunset) is what really sets this place apart.

We did have a bit of a mix-up at check-in and were originally placed in a room with more of a jungle view. The layout was similar, but having that ocean view made all the difference.

If you’re planning to book a stay at Luna Beach, trust me—go for the ocean view suite. It’s 100% worth it. Just make sure to book early, because those rooms can go fast during high-season.

My bathroom at Luna Beach Resort, featuring a sleek walk-in shower with built-in dispensers, a long stone sink with gold fixtures, and warm, modern touches throughout.

If you’re traveling with a bigger group or just love the space and setup of an Airbnb-style stay, you’ll definitely want to check out the Oceanview Villas at Luna Beach.

They’ve got a variety of villas in different sizes, price points, and setups—so whether you’re coming with family, friends, or a mix of both, there’s something that’ll fit your crew.

I actually looked into one of their villas, the Miller Beach House, for my family reunion (before everyone decided to book their own accommodation).

That one can sleep up to 16 people, which is perfect for bigger get-togethers. Some of the other villas are more suited for mid-size groups of 9 or 10. Either way, Luna Beach has options to fit whatever kind of trip you’re planning, without sacrificing comfort or killer views.

On-Site Restaurants

There are two on-site restaurants at Luna Boutique Beach Resort, so you don’t have to go far for a great meal.

The Luna Bean Café is the go-to spot for breakfast and brunch in the A/C, while Luna Beach Bar and Grill sits right on the beach—perfect for enjoying high-end cuisine with incredible ocean views.

Both restaurants have earned a spot on my list of the best local restaurants in Roatan!

Luna Beach Bar and Grill

I tried the Luna Beach Bar & Grill for the first time during my recent stay, and I was seriously impressed by the food.

Chef Luis Pichola clearly knows what he’s doing. I sampled a few dishes—including the tuna tiradito, the caprese sandwich on fresh focaccia, and a Caesar salad that low-key blew me away.

We love a good Caesar salad and fries—the ultimate girl dinner.

We also tried a couple of cocktails, which were just as solid as the food. It’s a great spot for lunch, dinner, or just hanging out with drinks by the pool.

Luna Bean Cafe

The Luna Bean Café actually opened before the resort did—back in 2021, when I lived on the island—so I was lucky enough to try it out before I left the island.

They serve up some seriously solid breakfast options, like a classic American breakfast with homemade hash browns, a traditional Honduran tipico breakfast—one of my favorites—or the Mexican chilaquiles.

I’ve also tried their Eggs Benny, which was de-lish, and they also serve every type of espresso drink you can think of—all of which you can enjoy in their strong A/C.

On-Site Dive Shop: Blue Moon Scuba

If you’re heading to Roatan to explore the island’s world-class dive sites, you won’t have to go far—Luna Beach Resort has its own on-site dive shop, Blue Moon Scuba. They offer PADI certification courses, fun dives, and more.

They also host the only dive operation dedicated to teaching scuba diving to kids 8 and up—so it’s a great option for families.

And if you’re looking to get more involved in giving back to Roatan’s marine environment, I definitely recommend checking out the RMP coral restoration course—it’s one of my favorite experiences I’ve had on the island and a great way to ensure you leave Roatan even better than you found it.

The Luna Beach Seahorses

First of all—how cute is that name?

Luna Beach is home to a small herd of rescued horses that were originally brought in under pretty rough conditions. Malnourished and poorly cared for, they were rehabilitated with proper food, medical attention, and a whole lot of love.

Turns out, a few of the mares were pregnant, and in 2021, the resort welcomed a bunch of adorable foals to the herd!

These days, some of the playful colts join their mothers on Luna Beach’s horseback riding tours. Guests can ride along the beautiful beaches of Roatan and soak in those stunning ocean views on horseback—definitely a unique way to experience the island.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to take part in this one thanks to my severe allergy to horses, but if you’re into horseback riding, this might be one of your favorite things to do in Roatan.

Is Luna Beach Resort Right for You?

Not every accommodation is perfect for every traveler. Luna Beach might be the perfect accommodation for your Roatan trip, or you might want to browse other beach resorts in Roatan that might be better suited to your needs.

Let Me Plan Your Trip to Roatan!

My stay at Luna Beach Resort was absolutely lovely, and it might just end up being the perfect resort for your trip, too.

With the exception of one crabby front desk employee, everyone at the hotel was amazing—so kind, welcoming, and genuinely accommodating. I’d absolutely stay at Luna Beach again on a future trip to Roatan!

If you’re planning a trip to Roatan for the first time, chances are you’re feeling a little bit overwhelmed.
